A genomic fragment that encompasses the entire E(spl)-complex, but in which the E(spl)m3-HLH open reading frame has been deleted and replaced by the sfGFP coding region has been inserted into the M{3xP3-RFP.attP}ZH-51D docking site on the second chromosome using the P"["acman"]" system. The E(spl)mδ-HLH and E(spl)mβ-HLH open reading frames have each been flanked by a pair of FRT sites, so that they can be excised in the presence of FLPase.
Dp(3;2)E(spl)-m3null,mβnull/Df(3R)BSC751 mutant embryos display a significant increase in the number of EL neurons (but not Ap neurons), as compared with controls.
