      Number and positioning of the sex comb teeth are affected, with e.g. 17 teeth (narrower than wild type) per sex comb, instead of the normal 12 teeth. Ectopic sex comb teeth appear distal to normal sex comb, in place of normal bristles of the tarsal segment. The3re is a lack of external segmentation in the tarsi. These effects show a temperature dependence.

      Stage 12 homozygous embryos fail to accumulate normal pattern of transcripts in the ventral maxillary domain, though the remaining expression pattern appears to be normal.
