bib7/bib8 embryos develop a hypertrophic nervous system at the expense of ventral cuticle. Homozygous clones in adult flies have moderately increased numbers of macrochaetae and microchaetae. These bristles have normal sockets innervated by single neurons.

These embryos are rescued by bibScer\UAS.cDa expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4h-1J3, producing embryos with nearly wild-type thoracic and abdominal cuticle without any missing denticle belts in some cases. Hypertrophy of the peripheral nervous system is also reduced in these embryos.
