Ddc5/Ddc8 and Ddc8/DdcDE1 flies show partial lethality.

Ddcts1 heterozygotes with Ddc null alleles show temperature-dependent sterility.

Adult escapers of the lethality show prolonged development time and die within 24 hours of eclosion, their bristles are thin and straw coloured, and body does not darken, the wing axillae are melanized similar to the mutant phenotype of sp, the leg joints are melanized similar to a wound reaction, and they walk on their tibia rather than their tarsi, although they are coordinated.

Specific DDC activity of newly eclosed adult CyO/Ddc heterozygotes, as percentage of CyO/+ control: 39.6
