Detailed Description

At 26.5oC, about 64% of ftz5/ftz13 animals survive to adulthood, while at 27.5oC, about 35% survive to adulthood. At 26.5oC, ftz5/ftz13 embryos show variable segmentation phenotypes, ranging from normal to having defects in three ftz-dependent denticle belts. At 27.5oC, 53.8% of ftz5/ftz13 embryos have segment defects, with 4.3% having 3 ftz-dependent segments affected.

Temperature sensitive mutation.

ftz5/Df(3R)Scr embryos grown at the non-permissive temperature show a variable phenotype. The germ band shows alternating bands of marked boundaries and more superficial indentations, which results in a mixture of normal and double-width segments. Viability is reduced at the permissive temperature.

Hemizygous embryos have partial gaps and/or fusions in some denticle belts while others appear normal. This phenotype is similar to that of ftzRpl.

The segmentation defects seen in ftz5/ftz13 embryos at 27.5oC are dominantly enhanced by the following (in each case the % of embryos with segmentation defects followed by the % of embryos with at least 3 ftz-dependent segments affected are given in parentheses after the enhancing allele); ftz-f12478 (95.9%, 44.7%), ftz-f13443 (98.5%, 35.1%), ftz-f15308 (91.3%, 40.5%), Gug519 (100%, 90.2%), Gug1757 (89.7%, 55.1%), Gug3333 (98.7%, 98.0%), bek1 (92.5%, 61.9%), hth2232 (73.9%, 16.3%), E(ftz)2020 (72.4%, 11.2%), E(ftz)723723 (91.9%, 32.5%), E(ftz)14271427 (99.4%, 93.1%), E(ftz)18151815 (72.1%, 22.1%), E(ftz)18191819 (97.8%, 31.3%), E(ftz)21422142 (93.1%, 13.2%), E(ftz)29552955 (78.5%, 16.2%), E(ftz)31503150 (95.0%, 79.4%), E(ftz)32013201 (88.7%, 15.5%), E(ftz)40384038 (82.9%, 23.6%). how2455 dominantly suppresses the segmentation defects seen in ftz5/ftz13 embryos at 27.5oC; 26.2% of the embryos have segment defects and 1.5% have at least 3 ftz-dependent segments affected. E(ftz)42364236 dominantly suppresses the segmentation defects seen in ftz5/ftz13 embryos at 27.5oC; 39.0% of the embryos have segment defects and 1.2% have at least 3 ftz-dependent segments affected.
