Abnormal oogenesis. Some of the eggs derived from homozygous germline clones arrest at early cleavage stages. Of the remaining eggs some hatch but few survive to adulthood and most of them exhibit abdominal and thoracic defects. Embryos that complete gastrulation begin to show a mild pattern of aberrant cell death but show near normal segmentation. Homozygous females are associated with a germline-dependent ovarian tumour phenotype that increases with age.
