Flies are moderately sensitive to X rays.

Mutants are hypermutable to alkylating agents, they are defective in the alkylation repair pathway.

Mutants show weak sensitivity to methyl methanesulfonate, γ rays or X rays, but not to UV light or nitrogen mustard. Homozygotes and hemizygotes do not show an increased frequency of spontaneous chromosome aberrations in neuroblast metaphases compared to wild-type larvae.

Survival of homozygous and hemizygous larvae is hypersensitive to exposure to methyl methanesulfonate and gamma rays.
