G to A nucleotide change at the second or third position of the Trp codon leads to a nonsense mutation (exact site of mutation unspecified)
mus304D2 mutant cells exhibit DNA breaks and telomere fusions in metaphase and anaphase at almost the same level as wild-type cells.
mus304D2 animals show a strong defect in a DNA damage checkpoint assay in the eye disc. mus304D2/Df(3L)W4 animals have macrochaetae defects (probably due genomic instability resulting in the loss of genetic material at haploinsufficient Minute loci). mus304D1/mus304D2 flies have wild-type eyes. Loss of heterozygosity is elevated compared to wild-type in mus304D2/Df(3L)W4 animals.
Hypersensitive to methyl methanesulfonate. Sensitive to 0.008% HN2.
female-sterile

The frequency of macrochaetae defects in mus304D2/Df(3L)W4 animals is increased by one copy of E(mus304)1. If mus304D1/mus304D2 flies are also heterozygous for E(mus304)1 they have rough eyes and abnormal or missing bristles.
