Phenotypic Data
Phenotypic Class
Phenotype Manifest In

photoreceptor cell & endoplasmic reticulum

Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

ERG recordings from ninaA1 homozygous mutant clones in the eye do not show a prolonged depolarization afterpotential (PDA) after exposure to light, unlike wild type.

Displays locomotor activity rhythm with an approximately 24h period.

Temperature sensitive (restrictive temperature: 29oC, permissive temperature: 18oC). At the restrictive temperature most of the Rh1 opsin in the photoreceptor cells R1-R6 is in the ER. These cells also show large accumulations of ER at the restrictive temperature.

Dramatic reductions in rhodopsin levels of R1--R6 cells with concomitant impaired visual function.

With respect to defective PDA, ninaA2 > ninaA1 > ninaA3.

ninaA1/ninaA[+] is a suppressor of outer photoreceptor cell phenotype of p53UAS.cJa

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

Loss of one genomic copy of ninaA, in a ninaA1/+ heterozygous background, protects the outer photoreceptor cells from Scer\GAL4ninaE.PT;p53Scer\UAS.cJa-induced apoptosis.

Complementation and Rescue Data
Comments

The phenotype can be fully rescued by P element mediated introduction of a wild type copy of ninaA.
