The amplitude of quantum bumps in mutant photoreceptors is smaller than wild type (when ATP is present in the intracellular solution during recordings).

Mutant flies are unable to discriminate between long and short light stimuli (in contrast to wild-type flies).

The electroretinogram (ERG) of norpA51 flies shows reduced amplitude and slower response kinetics compared to that of wild-type flies.

The amplitude response to vapours of all odorants tested in the maxillary palp is significantly reduced. The antennal response is unaffected. Maxillary palps have no gross anatomical defects and the electrical conduction properties are normal.
