stil1/stil4 ovaries have relatively normal egg chambers, although the oocyte is often in an abnormal position. The dominant ovoD2 phenotype is not significantly enhanced by one copy of stil1.

Females have rudimentary ovaries that either lack germ cells, or contain a few egg chambers with abnormal numbers of germ cells. Follicle cells function normally. Posterior migration of the follicle cells occurs normally but they secrete reduced dorsal appendages and an 'open-ended' chorion.

female-sterile homozygous females contain few developing egg chambers in their ovaries, which may contain abnormal numbers of nurse cells and usually degenerate before yolk uptake begins.
