su(msm1)1 is a suppressor of male sterile | recessive phenotype of ms(3)HO5A1
su(msm1)1 is a suppressor of testis phenotype of ms(3)HO5A1
Partly suppresses the ms(3)HO5A1 rudimentary testis phenotype, allowing spermatogenesis to proceed to a more advanced stage; males homozygous for both ms(3)HO5A1 and su(msm1)1 have spiral shaped testes, but these testes are considerably shorter and thinner than those of normal males. Elongated spermatid bundles are seen in these testes. The suppression is incomplete, as 8% of su(msm1)1 ms(3)HO5A1 double homozygous males have rudimentary testes. 7% of su(msm1)1 ms(3)HO5A1 double homozygous males are fertile, suggesting either that the ms(3)HO5A1 allele is leaky, or partial dominance of su(msm1)1 over its wild-type allele.
