Wings are shorter than normal and very broad. The crossveins are frequently incomplete and often thickened, owing to separation of the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the wing by fluid. Eyes are smaller than normal, are sometimes abnormally shaped and are slightly rough. Male genitalia are twisted, and pigmentation of the last abdominal segment is patchy in females, often forming a reticulate pattern. The phenotype has very weak penetrance. Viability is reduced in both sexes, and females are very infertile.
