Contains a deletion of bps 2281 to 2479 that leads to an in frame deletion of amino acids 746-811. This removes one and a half of the conserved WD40 repeats.
An in frame deletion of 66 amino acids from aa746–811. Position of mutation on reference sequence inferred by FlyBase curator based on author statement.
Early stages of spermatogenesis up through mature primary spermatocytes are present and normal. Postmeiotic stages are completely absent. Mutant testes have an abundance of mature primary spermatocytes with large, round nuclei and prominent nucleoli. Triple mutant aly1, can1, sa1 homozygotes are female fertile and male sterile, with similar effects on testis squashes as sa1 and can1. Spermatocytes arrest in the G2/M transition of meiosis I with partial chromosome condensation.
male-sterile No meiotic divisions or postmeiotic stages; spermatocytes accumulate.
Not associated with a detectable P-element insertion at the aly locus.
