Act88F6 null flies homozygous for Act88FE316K insert have almost normal flight ability, flies carrying one mutant copy have partial recovery of flight. Indirect flight muscles in Act88F6 homozygous for Act88FE316K insert have variable length myofibrils as seen in wild type.
IFM myofibrils are studied in transformant Act88F6 mutants. Mutants permit the assembly of cross striated myofibrils.
LM and EM studies reveal a slight change in muscle ultrastructure. The amino acid change has significantly affected the kinetics of force generation by muscle fibres by causing a conformational change in actin.
