In heterozygotes, the alar lobe is affected and weak anterior effects are seen on the medial costa and the radius.
Exhibits a dominant wing hinge phenotype.
Homozygous viable. Heterozygotes have wings held out at 90o, they are often curved down and more narrow than wild type. Alulae are shortened from proximal end, the remnant is a delta-shaped flap with marginal bristles. The halteres are fully down, the abdomen is narrow and has normal bristles. Viable over all deficiencies in the 70CD region as well as all other D alleles and Dr8. D5/+; eyD/+ flies are viable, unlike dominant late pupal lethal interaction of D1 with eyD. Viable when heterozygous with all lethal D alleles, the phenotype is the sum of the two D alleles.
