      Heat induced expression transforms part of more anterior segments toward thoracic identities, development of thoracic denticle belts in the head. Transformations do not occur in a Dfd mutant background.

      Failure of head involution and the appearance of groups of thoracic denticles along the ventral anterior border of the labial and maxillary segments. Ectopic expression induced at cellular blastoderm or in early gastrulation gives rise to labial and maxillary transformations to thoracic segments 2 or 3.
