Site of nucleic acid substitution inferred by FlyBase based on reported amino acid change
Sixty-day old ninaAE110V homozygous mutant retina display defects in the ommatidia trapezoidal arrangement and occasional photoreceptor cell loss. Conversely, heterozygous ninaAE110V mutant retinas (with moderate ER stress) remain intact, showing normal morphology despite displaying hallmarks of ER stress and 'unfolded protein response' activation.
Deep pseudopupil score of 5.

Loss of one genomic copy of ninaA, using the amorphic allele ninaAE110V, protects the outer photoreceptor cells from rprScer\UAS.cZa-induced apoptosis. This anti-apoptotic effect is dose-dependent, as complete loss of ninaA leads to further protection.
Loss of one genomic copy of ninaA, using the amorphic allele ninaAE110V, protects the outer photoreceptor cells from p53Scer\UAS.cJa-induced apoptosis.
Loss of one genomic copy of ninaA, using the amorphic allele ninaAE110V, protects the outer photoreceptor cells from Dcp-1Scer\UAS.cPa-induced apoptosis.
A heterozygous or homozygous ninaAE110V background is sufficient to induce a partial rescue of photoreceptor cells from ApcQ8-induced loss.
