The bristle phenotype seen female D.simulans/D.melanogaster hybrids is significantly rescued by the heat shock induction of schs.PR. The best rescue takes place from heat shocks applied close to the time of formation of the precursors for each bristle.

Flies expressing schs.PR in a Df(1)sc10-1 background have macrochaetae at the dorsocentral and presutural positions. These bristles have normal axon projections.

Expression of schs.PR does not alter the number of olfactory sensilla on the surface of the third antennal segment. Large bristles resembling macrochaetae are produced on the surface of the third antennal segment when schs.PR is expressed using heat shock.

Tp(3;3)iro-1 homozygotes flies carrying schs.PR develop tufts of bristles in the lateral part of the notum (that is normally naked in Tp(3;3)iro-1 homozygotes) after heat shock.

Df(1)sc10-1 flies carrying schs.PR can develop the complete labellum bristle pattern, when they are heat shocked at 0, 6 and 12 hours after puparium formation.

In the absence of endogenous ac or sc most schs.PvD induced sense organs are wild type and in the correct position on the notum, thoracic pleura, wings and legs.
