Most eggs laid develop to hatched larvae, some eggs are undeveloped due to a developmental block in the later syncytial divisions. Oogenesis does not proceed beyond early stage 10 in ovaries from homozygous females due to a defect in the central migration of the anterior columnar follicle cells. Oogenesis is completed in the ovaries of homozygous females but the eggs are flaccid and often lack or have fused dorsal appendages.
