Very rough eyes, as the photoreceptors and their rhabdomeres have abnormal shapes, and lack of pigment in part of the eye. The light reception organelle is disorganised but the pathway trigged by light leading to phototaxis is still functioning. Membrane microvilli that form the rhabdomere are properly aligned. Mutant eye disc is nearly normal with a single area of apparent pattern disruption associated with cell death.
