Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

emcip15/Df(3L)emc-E12 embryos show mutant phenotypes in tissues of all three germ layers. Head involution fails and differentiation of the mandibular apparatus, spiracles and filzkorper was incomplete. Denticles of first and second row are missing, indicating a faulty specification of the intersegmental border cells. 50% of embryos show subtle deviations of axonal pathways or localized defects in the longitudinal connectives. In the PNS, a few neurons are missing, and there are rare changes in neuronal identity and disorganization of neuronal groups and axonal routing. Developing Malpighian tubules have extra tip cells, which do not enhance proliferation, and elongation does not occur. Somatic muscles are missing or deranged, with many detached from the epidermis. Distribution of visceral mesoderm over the developing midgut is abnormal. Midgut constrictions do not form, and midgut epithelium is irregular in thickness.

Phenotypes of emc alleles can be ordered, going from weakest to strongest: emc1 < emc1/Df(3L)emc-E12 < emc9 = emcip15 = emc9/emcip15 < emc9/Df(3L)emc-E12 = emcip15/Df(3L)emc-E12 < Df(3L)emc-E12/Df(3L)emc-E12.
