Genomic fragment containing entire coding region of gsb, driven by an Hsp70 promoter.

Ectopic expression in the embryonic neuroectoderm before neuroblast formation causes a neuroectodermal phenotype, row 3 neuroblasts are transformed to row 5. There is little effect on rows 1 and 7. Ectopic expression after neuroblast formation but before its division does not cause transformation.
Groups of denticles or entire denticle belts are replaced with naked cuticle. Heat shocks from 2.75 to 3.25 hours transform complete segments while those after 4 hours transform parts of segments. Multiple heat shocks generate embryos with completely naked cuticles. Ectopic Keilin's organs sometimes develop. Row three neuroblasts of the embryonic CNS are transformed into row 5 neuroblasts. The CNS also shows fusion of two commissures in each segment and the elimination of the longitudinal connectives. aCC and pCC are eliminated at higher frequency than for gsb-nhs.PZ.
A series of three heat shocks almost completely rescues the mutant Df(2R)gsb cuticle phenotype.
