      Mitotic recombination clones in the eye of an otherwise normal fly cause reduced number of outer photoreceptors. Somatic mosaic analysis demonstrates large clones in the eye may be devoid of ommatidia and ommatidia from small clones have reduced numbers of photoreceptors.
