      Heat shock during second or third instar larval development is sufficient to produce melanotic masses within larvae and pupae and cause death. Rapid growth, invasiveness and lethality associated with the unduced tumours indicates that overexpression of hop leads to malignant neoplasia indistinguishable from hopTum mutants. Larvae also have hypertrophied lymph glands.
