Description

7.1kb fragment of ci upstream and transcribed sequences (first 5 codons) is fused to codon 8 of lacZ. Comparison of the ci fragment to genomic sequence reveals a 135bp deletion 1.2kb upstream from the start of transcription.

      The 7.1 kb ci upstream region drives EcollacZ expression in a pattern approximating wild type ci transcript expression. The protein is detected in the cellular blastoderm stage, and persists through germ band retraction in a segmentally repeated pattern. In the cellular blastoderm stage, two segments of EcollacZ expression are detected, rather than the three segments seen in wild type ci expression. Expression is also detected along the ventral midline. In imaginal discs, reporter expression is restricted to the anterior compartment.
