Internal deletion of the P-element.
put88 embryos raised at the permissive temperature until stage 14, then switched to the restrictive temperature show axon guidance defects; the ISNb axons stall in 31% of hemisegments and 32% of SNa axons fail to branch or extend completely.
At 25oC, 39% of homozygous embryos have a strong dorsal-open phenotype (large holes in the dorsal cuticle), 31% have an intermediate phenotype (the dorsal cuticle is noticeably reduced, and there is increased curvature in the abdominal segments, resulting in a "tail-up" phenotype) and 31% have a weak phenotype. put10/put88 adults are viable, and sometimes show defects in wing venation. Temperature shift experiments using put135/put88 animals indicate that there is an absolute requirement for zygotic put function between 8 and 12 hours of embryogenesis.
Heterozygotes with put10460 are lethal at high temperatures, at low temperatures individuals survive and exhibit ectopic wing venation in the region of the posterior cross vein. Escaper females produce ventralised embryos.
put88/put[+] is an enhancer of abnormal neuroanatomy | embryonic stage phenotype of daw3
put88/put[+] is an enhancer of larval intersegmental nerve phenotype of daw3
Selected as: ry- excision allele.
Three classes of put allele can be identified with respect to decreasing severity of wing venation phenotypes with put10 : Class I (put10460 = put62) > Class II (put51 = put88 = put135) > Class III (put10 = put24 = put97).
