Description

Construct: Genomic DNA covering 7.5kb of the elav locus, including the ORF, with Dvir\elav replacing elav sequences for the internal BamHI-SalI fragment (region I) fused to 800bp of αTub84B trailer sequences. The last 47 amino acids (conserved between the two species) are encoded by D.melanogaster sequences.

      A single copy of elav::Dvir\elavDvORF has no deleterious effect on flies. The viability of flies carrying two copies of elav::Dvir\elavDvORF is very reduced and any escapers are sterile.
