Homozygotes show low viability, though they do eclose as adults under favourable conditions and are fertile in outcrosses. Subtle but 100% penetrant rough eye phenotype. In superficial sections of the eye the pattern of lenses and interommatidial bristles is relatively normal. In deeper sections ommatidia show fewer than 7 photoreceptors, and the photoreceptors are shrunken relative to wild type. Numbers of pigment cells is reduced and ommatidial units are broken and abnormally spaced. Eyes frequently show scratched facets near to the edge. Wings are held vertically under mild anesthesia and the flies are so weak and uncoordinated that they often get stuck in the food immediately after eclosion. Homozygous embryos appear morphologically normal.
scrtjo11 has abnormal neuroanatomy | adult stage | somatic clone - tissue specific phenotype, enhanceable by scrape2A/scrape2A
scrtjo11 has photoreceptor cell R7 | adult stage | somatic clone - tissue specific phenotype, enhanceable by scrape2A/scrape2A
scrtjo11 has axon | adult stage | somatic clone - tissue specific phenotype, enhanceable by scrape2A/scrape2A
scrtjo11 has eye photoreceptor cell phenotype, enhanceable by dpn[+]/dpn1
Whereas either single mutant shows escapers, dpn1, scrtjo11 double mutant embryos never hatch and exhibit a dramatic reduction of both central and peripheral nervous system nervous system. dpn1/+,scrtjo11 have an enhanced rough eye phenotype and more severe loss of photoreceptors than for scrtjo11 alone.
