Larval lethality may be due to defects in the CNS or ring gland. Some larvae have smaller brains and imaginal discs and appear to be smaller in body size. The larvae appear to be morphologically normal but are 'sickly'. Mutant phenotype is not enhanced by removal of one copy of tok. Upto 3% progeny from heteroallelic tok combinations escape to adulthood, escapers possess wing defects (posterior crossvein is missing) and less frequently crossveins are incomplete in one or both wings.
