Construct: Amino acid replacement: Q203L.
Electrophysiological studies of the retina reveal the light intensity required to elicit a response was greater for P{DGq1-203} flies than wild type. Both the initiation and termination responses are significantly different. ERG recordings demonstrate mutants are less sensitive to light and do not reach the same maximal response amplitude as wild type flies, even after prolonged dark adaptation. rdgB9; P{DGq1-203} lines show signs of degeneration, small irregular rhabdomeres and holes in the retina. Retinas of norpA36; rdgB2 mutants fail to degenerate in the dark or light, rdgB2; P{DGq1-203} retinas degenerate in the dark and norpA36; rdgB2; P{DGq1-203} triple mutant retinas fail to degenerate in the light or dark.
Heads exhibit a small GTPase activity in the dark.
