      Some homozygotes die shortly after hatching, hatched larvae are sluggish and many die near the eggshell. These larvae have small patches of extra denticles along the ventral midline but no other striking anomalies. Somatic clones in the eye lead to loss of eye and surrounding head tissues. Clones in the cuticle cause patterning defects (missing bristles, notching and scarring of wings, loss of abdominal cuticle and truncation or duplication of appendages).
