A genomic fragment extending from -3250 to +271 relative to the janB transcription start site is fused upstream of lacZ. The genomic fragment also includes the janA and Sry-β transcription units, and a 5' portion of the Sry-α transcription unit.

      The expression pattern of this construct resembles that of endogenous janB. Transcript is first detected in spermatocytes, and signal increases during spermatocyte growth.
