Detailed Description

Expression of grimhs.PC results in rapid and robust cell death of 100% of mitotically cycling follicle cells in the ovary. Induction of grimhs.PC during endocycles also results in the death of 100% of follicle cells.

Expression of grimhs.PC in early third-instar larvae causes rapid apoptosis (caspase activation) in mitotically cycling cells of the wing disc, eye disc and brain. Very weak caspase labelling is seen when grimhs.PC is expressed in endocycling salivary gland cells. No apoptosis is observed in the fat body.

Heat induced expression causes extensive cell death throughout the embryo. Ectopic cell death causes gross morphological abnormalities and severe organismal lethality. grim induced apoptosis can occur in Df(3L)H99 embryos.

Co-expression of hidhs.PG and grimhs.PC in endocycling salivary gland cells results in a higher level of apoptosis (caspase activation) compared to the expression of either transgene alone. No apoptosis is observed in the fat body.
