Flies carrying two copies of this transgene generally have wild-type eyes, though on occasion slightly rough eyes can be seen, where it appears that the R7 photoreceptor cell has been transformed into a R1-R6 class photoreceptor cell.

Repeated heat shock induction of P{sE-dos} during development is sufficient to rescue the lethality of dos^R31 and dos^P115 homozygotes and dos^R31/dos^P115 transheterozygotes. Expression of P{sE-dos} also restores the multiple R7 phenotype in sev^{S11.T:Hsap\MYC} heterozygotes.

The addition of dos^hs.sev strongly suppresses the rough eye phenotype seen in csw^CS.hs.2sev; dos^1.46 flies. Heat shock expression of dos^hs.sev in dos^1.46/dos^2.42 flies, leads to adults which occasionally lack R7 or the normal number of outer photoreceptors. Heat shock expression of dos^hs.sev rescues the lethality and almost rescues the eye phenotype seen in dos^1.46/dos^2.42 flies.
