Construct: Fusion of an hsp70 promoter and Dmau\mariner\TMos1 promoter (provides translation initiation sequences) drive expression of P1\cre, polyadenylation signal sequence are donated by Dmau\mariner\TMos1.
The genotypic effect of P{Crey} yields an overwhelming majority of white-eyed flies (excision of P{loxP(w+mC)}), P{Crew} produces yellow eyed progeny (lacks the expression from P{loxP(w+mC)}, but has weak expression of w+mC from P{Crew}). 'Paternal' P1\cre transmission effectively represents absence of P1\cre activity, paternal transmission of P{Crey} or P{Crew} yields flies with the eye colour of P{loxP(w+mC)}. Maternal effect of P{Crey} is not strong, most flies show no sign of P{loxP(w+mC)} excision, some have sectors of white. Maternal effect of P{Crew} is considerable, most flies only retain small sectors of red.
