P-element of approximately 2kb is inserted in the first exon. This results in an aberrant transcript that contains an additional intron starting at nucleotide 20 of the P-element and ending 34bp after the P-element in the mus205 sequence, producing a transcript that is 15bp longer than wild type. A stop codon is introduced 9bp after codon 13 of the wild-type product.
Mutant flies are sensitive to methyl methanesulfonate (MMS) compared to wild type, but are not hypersensitive to X rays. In germ cells, no effect on mutability by X-rays, NQO or MMS is seen in mutants. In somatic cells, no effect on MMS-induced mutations or recombinations is seen.
Separable from: a preexisting mutation in the progenitor stock which results in an increase in the induction of somatic recombination and sex-linked recessive lethals by MMS compared to wild type.
A preexisting MMS sensitive mutant (unspecified) is present on the mus205P chromosome.
