The lateral chordotonal sensory axons arrest at variable stages before reaching the central nervous system (CNS); 50% extend towards the intersegmental nerve (ISN) and stall or fail to reach the ISN, 46% travel a significant distance within the ISN, 2% reach the CNS but do not penetrate it, and none of the axons enter the CNS and form arborisations. Defects in LCH dendrite morphology are seen in shotk06601 mutant embryos.
