An Hsp70 promoter drives expression of a 2.2kb cDNA fragment containing the entire fj open reading frame.
An ectopic joint-like structure is present in 80.5% of legs in flies expressing fjhs.PB. The ectopic partial joints appear as doughnut-shaped invaginations in tarsal segment 3, or much less frequently in tarsal segments 2 and 4, and are usually in the middle of the segment. The ectopic joints are formed with minimal loss of growth in the segment and no loss of endogenous joints.
Flies expressing fjhs.PB show patterning defects in the wings, eyes, optic projections, and legs.
Carried in plasmid "pHS-fj+", transfected into S2 cells and used to study the subcellular localisation of the fj protein.
