Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

Single dose in a tra2/+ background does not substantially affect male fertility. Two or three doses in a tra2/+ background causes a quantitative reduction in male fertility. Males carrying four doses in a tra2/+ background are uniformly sterile, due to a defect in spermatogenesis. External appearance is completely male. Gonial cells, spermatocytes, meiotic stages and mature spermatids appear normal. Bundles of spermatids are not tightly coiled as they would be in wild type. Mature sperm fail to migrate to the seminal vesicle, indicating amotility. Sperm are never observed in the spermathaecae or seminal receptacles.
