Construct: A tap cDNA is expressed under the control of a heat shock promoter.
Flies expressing taphs.PL due to heat shock show an impaired behavioural response to sucrose in a tarsal response assay compared to control flies. The inhibitory response to NaCl in this assay is higher in flies expressing taphs.PL due to heat shock than in control flies. Late third instar larvae heat shocked for 1 hour at 39oC show a survival rate of between 2 and 30%, and develop into adults without any detectable bristle abnormalities.
