Flies expressing ninaC^BP in a ninaC⁵ background do not show retinal degeneration. The flies have abnormal electroretinograms; there is no apparent defect in adaptation or activation in response to light, the return of the maintained component to baseline is not significantly slower than wild-type after cessation of the light stimulus, but subsequent corneal negative deflections are observed in the dark (dark responses).
