Precise excision of the P{lacW} element.
Homozygotes die as embryos with no obvious phenotype. al1/alex flies show loss of the arista. The only clear phenotype associated with homozygous clones in the wing is a deletion of part of vein II. The only region of the leg affected by homozygous clones is the tip of the leg where the claw organ is completely deleted amd the last two tarsal segments are deleted in size. Clones must be present in both anterior and posterior compartments to delete both claws. Homozygous clones in the sternopleurum and scutellum show extreme al mutant phenotypes.
