nurse cell & nucleus (with l(3)S089004S089004)
The egg cell nucleus develops abnormally in l(3)S089004S089004/l(3)S089004S089302 egg chambers. Clumps of condensed chromatin are often seen within nurse cell nuclei. The number of follicle cells is reduced in l(3)S089004S089004/l(3)S089004S089302 females. Chimeric females containing l(3)S089004S089004/l(3)S089004S089302 pole cells in a l(3)S089004+ soma do not lay eggs. Females containing homozygous follicle cell clones produce offspring at a similar rate to control females.
Early lethal.
Su(var)3-9ptn, l(3)S089004S089302 has follicle cell phenotype
Su(var)3-9ptn, l(3)S089004S089302 has oocyte nucleus phenotype
Su(var)3-9ptn, l(3)S089004S089302 has nurse cell & nucleus phenotype
The egg cell nucleus develops abnormally in Su(var)3-9ptn/l(3)S089004S089302 egg chambers. Clumps of condensed chromatin are often seen within nurse cell nuclei. The arrangement of follicle cells appears abnormal in Su(var)3-9ptn/l(3)S089004S089302 females.
Precise excision of the P{lacW} element reverts the mutant phenotype. FlyBase curator comment: Su(var)3-9ptn was reported to be allelic to two P-element insertion alleles at 67C (l(3)S089004S089004 and l(3)S089004S089302) in FBrf0134644. However, FBrf0180260 demonstrates that Su(var)3-9ptn is an allele of Su(var)3-9 (at 88E) and that the l(3)S089004S089004 and l(3)S089004S089302 alleles at 67C represent a separate "modifier of dominant female sterility" locus. The phenotypes reported for Su(var)3-9ptn/l(3)S089004S089004 and Su(var)3-9ptn/l(3)S089004S089302 transheterozygotes in FBrf0134644 therefore represent genetic interactions between non-allelic mutations and not a failure to complement between allelic mutations.
