blv4/blv6 flies show 10% viability. Homozygous and blv5/blv6 flies show 1-5% viability. The legs, eyes and wings are smaller than normal in blv4/blv6 flies; the eyes are nearly wild-type, a weak phenotype is seen in the leg and a strong phenotype is seen in the wing. The legs, eyes and wings are smaller than normal in homozygous and blv5/blv6 flies; a weak phenotype is seen in the eye (20-25% of flies have smaller eyes than normal) and strong phenotypes are seen in the leg and wing. blv4/blv6 third larval instar wing discs show no differences in cell death compared to wild-type discs. No obvious differences in cell size compared to wild-type cells are seen in the wing discs. The mutant discs show a significant reduction in BrdU staining compared to wild type. At 29oC, almost 100% of blv4/blv6 flies carrying blhs.PC die during the second or third larval instar stage.
