FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.
The viability of homozygous and heterozygous mutant progeny of mothers homozygous for a strong allele of mei-S332 are the same. The chromosomal morphology in mei-S332 mutants is indistinguishable from wild-type. When mei-S332 is over-expressed the overall chromosome morphology was similar to wild-type, but variability in chromosomal condensation is observed. Metaphase chromosomes often showed undercondensed centromeric regions. Condensation of anaphase chromosomes is always normal but there are occasionally chromosomes that lag slightly.
