When CG4322EP1631 is driven by Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 germ cells are seen scattered throughout the developing embryo. At stage 11, when germ cells in the wild-type have largely associated with the mesoderm, mutant germ cells are very disorganised and although many cell are near the somatic gonadal precursors, some cells migrate far past their mesodermal targets and into the ectoderm. AT later stages, many germ cells are found in ectopic locations, often resulting with gonads with as few as one germ cell, instead of the 12-15 seen normally.
