embryonic head & sclerite | ectopic
Expression induced in the embryo up to an including the blastoderm stage had no effect on trunk segmentation. Expression during stage 7-9 of embryogenesis causes a range of phenotypes including the development of sclerotic head plates in the trunk reminiscent of ems-dependent structures in embryos that lack HOX-cluster genes. Fusion of trunk segments occur - though this phenotype is ems-dependent. Total size of embryo is sometimes much reduced.
