    Description

FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.

    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

Adult escapers neither jump nor fly, having a wing beat frequency well below normal. They also fail to perform any of the sexual routines (wing song, dance, licking and mounting) in front of wild-type females. Grooming activity is apparently normal when exhibited. The time required to recover an upright position varies greatly among individuals but in general, the values deteriorate with age; day old flies usually recover in less than 1 second while flies older than 7 days take 30 seconds or more to stand up. Life span ranges from 2 to 28 days with flies showing continuous tremors and frequently falling during the final 24 hours (most controls live for over 50 days). Bristles appear shorter and thinner than normal although their number and pattern is not modified. ari-1unspecified/+ ; ari-207768/+ double heterozygotes do not show visible phenotypes and have normal viability and fertility.
