      Homozygotes survive until the larval-pupal transition. 31.8% of nuclei in homozygous larval brain neuroblasts show chromosome undercondensation (under condensation of heterochromatin as well as euchromatin is seen). Additional mitotic defects such as premature sister chromatid separation, polyploidy, aneuploidy and chromosome breakage are also seen. Similar defects are seen in slse4/sls110ry- larvae.

      Failed to complement two alleles of sls and Df(3L)Aprt-143 when first isolated. Complementation test done several months later revealed that this unstable allele complemented all sls alleles tested and Df(3L)Aprt-143.
